The assignment for January is to illustrate the concept of "NEW". You can interpret this in any way that you like. Don't like this one, then you can make up your own assignment and bring it to share. Having fun is the most important part of this group.

I would like to say 'Thank You!' to those members that brought a food item to donate to the Salvation Army.

Also for the New Year we need to start thinking about how we are going to formalize our group and elect some good people to leadership positions. If you have any good ideas, please email them to me.

If you bring prints, they should be at least eight-by-ten, but larger would be better. Since this is a digital group, you can also bring a digital file to project. We can input from CD, thumb drive, or compact flash card. If you have something else, bring a down load device, and we'll see if we can make it work.

Have a problem or a photographic question? Write it down and we will have the group discuss it. The 'old pros' enjoy helping those who are new to the craft.

The sharing assignment for November is Reflections. Please interpret this theme any way you like and have fun with it. No time! Then feel free to bring any photographs that you would like to share with the group. That could be older photographs that you are proud of, a new series that you are working on, or it could be a set of problem photos that you are having trouble with. You could even give yourself a unique assignment to shoot this month. Please keep in mind that this is for fun only and there isn't any requirement to show photographs. This is a good learning environment but not a class, so there are no tests! There is no need to stress over this, if you are unable or feel uncomfortable participating, it's no big deal.

Also this month, we are bringing food items, non perishable, for donation to the Salvation Army.

If you bring prints, they should be at least 8X10, but larger would be better. Since this is a digital group, you can also bring a digital file to project. We can input from CD, thumb drive, or compact flash card. If you have something else, bring a down load device, and we'll see if we can make it work.

Ken will be doing a Photoshop demo this month on sharpening, not using the unsharp mask. I am looking forward to seeing his demo.

The shareing assignment for October is an open choice, and you may bring any photographs that you would like to share with the group. You could even give yourself a unique assignment to shoot this month. Please keep in mind that this is for fun only and there is no requirement for participation. I finally got PS installed on the projection lap top and I did our first demo on converting to black and white using lab color, improving contrast with levels, and adding a predictable and repeatable sepia tone using color balance. I am looking forward to the other members sharing their favorite secrets with the group.

I am going to try and install Photoshop on the laptop this month so we can start to get involved with some concepts and learning. If you have done anything in PS that you would like to share with the group, save it as a PSD or layered TIFF so we can see your steps. As we get more comfortable with each other, I am hoping that members will start doing some short presentations. I know how scary this can be if you have never done this in front of a group before, however, this is a great way to learn and build self confidence. Hopefully we are all friends here and our main purpose is to help and encourage each other to be better photographers and artists.
