Hello Everyone,

I volunteered as a coordinator for weekend photo excursions. Does anyone have any favorite places or ideas? It will also help if anyone know of any contacts to charter a bus for excursion locations further than 25 miles from our meeting place in Naples. Please let me know.

I am excited about getting something started. I will pick a couple of dates and please let me know if they work for you. Based on the response, will determine the first date.

Have a great picture taking day.

Hi Kwan,

Thanks for volenteering to do this; So. Calif. has a wealth of good photo opertunities.

Downtown LB, LA, or OC for architecture.
Old town San Diego and Balboa Park for the photography museum.
The Getty for photographs and the photo exhibet.
Fish harbor San Pedro for cool boats, nets, and birds.
Temecula for vines, grapes, and wine tasting.
L.A. County Arboritum.
Huntington Library (these two can be done on the same day)
Rancho Los Alamitos or Los Cerritos.

These are just a few suggestions and I know that others will be glad to add to the list.

The Dory Fish boats in Newport Beach, very early 6am I think is when to arrive...
A few years back I went with a photo class there... I do not recall the details though and I would not be available until sometime mid-Sep or later.

If you arrive at Newport Pier between 7 and 9 am, you?ll see local fishermen unloading their dories at Dory Fishing Fleet, a fresh seafood market. This is where many local chefs choose the catch of the day.

Here's more info in case you want to check it out:

Amen to downtowns...but add Pasadena (could mix with Arboretum and Huntington Library).

I was going to suggest the same thing as well. Old Town Pasadena is gorgeous!

Also, Echo Park (where they have the Lotus Festival).

Cheers!

Good suggestion about checking out whether an area is "allowed for shooting". I took a UCLA photography class recently. We went to downtown LA to shoot buildings. Security people of the large buildings ran us out of public outside areas. The only place we were ultimately allowed was the Disney Hall. Bummer times we live in, eh?
